SRS Auditors

SRS Auditors understand the importance of ensuring the agency is complying with policies and doing business in an efficient and effective manner.

SRS Auditors conduct performance and financial audits of the cash assistance, medical assistance, food stamps, child support enforcement services, investigation of child and elderly abuse, rehabilitation services, alcohol and drug abuse programs and foster care, family preservation and adoption programs administered by SRS.

Performance Audits determine whether the agency:

  • Acquires, protects and uses its personnel, property and space economically and efficiently;
  • Administers its programs, activities, or functions effectively;
  • Complies with laws and regulations;
  • Can improve or change inefficiencies or uneconomical practices; and
  • Administers the benefits established by the legislature or other authorizing body as intended.

SRS Auditors also conduct internal financial audits of the agency's records. Financial audits include financial statement and internal audits to determine whether:

  • Financial statements correctly represent the financial position and are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles;
  • The agency has complied with laws and regulations for those transactions having a material impact on the financial statements.

On the job, SRS Auditors perform:

  • Financial reconciliations;
  • Statistical and mathematical computations and analyses;
  • Budget and transaction analysis;
  • Systems analysis;
  • Compliance testing;
  • Database and spreadsheet design;
  • Research and analysis of case files and financial records;
  • Interviews and negotiations;
  • Efficiencies and controls evaluations;
  • Correspondence and reports; and
  • Graphic presentations.

Auditors become familiar with the internal operations of state government and routinely advance in other parts of state government.

Job Requirements

SRS Auditors must have experience developing the control systems and financial records of an organization's activities and preparing financial statements and reports according to GAAP standards. Education may be substituted as determined relevant by the agency.
